A few days ago when I was scrolling through the Xbox Games Store I saw a game that stood out. The title read “Awesomenauts.” I was curious so I bought the game and it turned out to be amazing. This game plays in a 2D aspect and was released May 2012. Now in this review we are going to go over the gameplay, design, cooperative aspect, and graphics.
For the first segment we will be talking about the gameplay. The gameplay can be pretty repetitive but is fun because of the different characters that are in the game. Im not gonna go over all of them but just a few. First, lets talk about the mascot of Awesomenauts who is Clunk. Clunk is basically a tank with a ton of power but is pretty slow and has a LOT of health. Clunk has some pretty cool stuff like Missiles, exploding himself, (idk how that is cool but the first time I saw it I said EXPLOSION :D) and biting people like my cat is right now. Also even though he is chunky he can fly with a jet on his back. Weird right? Now for the last character I will be showing you is… Leon Chameleon! Leon as you heard is a chameleon and his skills are as weird as this sounds “Tongue Snatch,” Slash (wait are we playing Pokemon?) and Cloaking Skin. Tongue Snatch is when he brings someone near him by using his tongue. I think someone is a pedophile <_<. Slash is basically where he uses his sword and slashes the enemy. Leon used Slash! It’s not very effective -.-. Cloaking Skin is basically where you make a fake clone of yourself with very little health that can walk around and attack. The aspect of this game is to break the enemy teams turrets and break their base. This game has online multiplayer and local multiplayer. There is no Story Mode in this game which makes it lack a little in the gameplay section. Over all in this section I would give the gameplay a 8 and a half out of 10.
Now for the next area which is design. I would say the design is pretty good but can be a LOT better. They really don’t have any easter eggs or hidden areas which does make it lack a lot. BUT there is one easter egg in the game where you have to play the tutorial twice and then in the upgrade area on your second time playing the tutorial there you don’t click the dynamite upgrade and you will see an upgrade called ROFLnauts. Click on it and you will be playing in a Smash Bros type thing with the Awesomenauts. This is a little easter egg deep in the coding but really cool. From what I know and from what Google knows. That is basically by my knowledge the only easter egg in the game. Over all in this section I would give the secrets and easter eggs a 3/10.
Now the cooperative aspect which is outstanding. This game almost only relies on co-op. It is a 3v3 where as I stated work with your teammates to kill the enemy team and destroy their base. When you’re using the Medic this is where teamwork comes in. The Medic is all about teamwork with healing your allies and placing little capsules that heal and protect your teammates. The Medic’s attack even heals your teammates! On an unrelated note this game WILL be getting a sequel for the Playstation 4 called Awesomenauts Assemble! There is no release date yet from what I know but what I do know is this game will be great with more cooperative aspects. For the cooperative aspect of this game I would give it 9/10.
Finally the final segment is the graphics. The graphics are pretty good with some nice little touches. One part of the graphics I like the most is when Leon uses his cloaking skin and the red team turns red and black and the blue team turns blue and black. It’s a neat touch added to this wonderful game. The Medic also has brains inside a capsule attached to its head. Weird right? The graphics of this game are pretty good and I would rate them a 6 and a half out of 10.
Now for the total score I would give this game. Combining the gameplay, design, cooperative aspect, and graphics the total score is… a 8/10. I hope you all enjoyed this review that I made of Awesomenauts for the Xbox 360.
