It's very rare that in these days a game comes along that takes millions by surprise, and captivates audiences around the world. In an Age where we're given games that are made for entertainment, for fun, and for competition, it is rare that we ever learn from a game, and better ourselves. The world premier of a trailer at the Video game Awards last year gave us the glimpse at such a game. A worn out Adventurer, struggling through the mist. A Mysterious woman, gazing at a beautiful city. A bloody battle, an Undead Hero. A ferocious Beast like Dragon, Heart pounding music, Everyone left jaw dropped at what it could possibly be. And in the last seconds, the world fell silent, an impossible predicted sequel to one of the greatest games of all time, The title before them, " Dark Souls : II ". I am proud to be here, Reviewing this beautiful and Generation defining Sequel in one of the most Famously Infamous games of all time.
Dark Souls 2 puts you in the boots of an character afflicted with the Curse of the Undead, and like all Undead, it is your destiny to either free your world of the curse, or become a part of the darkness that has swallowed the world whole. While almost nothing is known of the World of Drangleic, The player is told that they must Obtain the Souls of Ancient Beast, to help the ancient kingdom become the land it once was. Working Along side with the Mysterious woman, A pure human known only as The Emerald Herald, Players obtain the souls of Great ones and explore the massive Country, unraveling the mysterious of the land.
The game play is very much similar to the play in the first game. New mechanics have been included to give the player a ledge up in combat, and even to help with the deadly unfriendly camera, ( Which has been redone and now works beautifully when locked on to an enemy ). New Dark Magic has been introduced in the forms of Ancient Pyomancy and Hexes. Duel wielding Weapons has also been introduced, along with some gnarly new weapon types, such as the deadly fast Twin blade and the Disgustingly powerful Ultra Swords. New Stats also add difficulty to the already extremely difficult game. Equipment weight load, Spell casting speed, and Specific spell attributes are now given their own stat, which must be considered in all aspects of character building. From Software did a phenomenal job at the subtle changes that make the game feel fresh, the HD graphics, player friendly menu, and a quick motion camera that lets you easily view the beautiful Environments of a Dark and decaying world.
One of the major changes added to the game was the addition of Story based Online. Dark Souls 2 has a very MMO feel to it. Being able to play with friends on a quicker notice, and having more of the story relate to the multiplayer. Many of the games Ancient Covenants request you to play with friends in some "Jolly Cooperation!" and Slay vicious Demons across the multiverse. While other Covenants encourage you to embrace The abyss and travel through time and space like The Dark Wraiths of Eons ago, and slay any Undead, in an attempt to secure the curses succession. If a player lacks internet connection, the game will provide them with artificial invaders, or pull them into preset situations in "other " worlds.
The Story of the world is beautiful, and it has a breath taking sound track to accompany you on your adventures. Even as you die hundreds of times in a single room, you can still enjoy the aged and almost depressing look of every brick. The landscape will emotionally hit you, gently, with a depressing and almost helpless look, as if it's begging you to save it from the Curse that The Ancient Kings tried so hard to protect their people from. Travelers will uncover the horrifying paste of the world, a past filled with unforgiving acts of torture and genocide. A war against Men and Beast, A treaty between The Mortal Souls and The Forever living Dragons, and unexpected secrets of betrayal and Redemption. The lore is just as deep as before, and the story much more emotional, and demanding of the player, knowing that this time the choices you make will effect the kingdom's fate forever after you make them.
A tale of Sorrow and Fear, an unforgettable adventure, A landmark in RPG games for decades to come. Dark Souls 2 is with out a doubt the most Anticipated Sequel of all time, and unlike most sequels of today, it blew away players and gave them their money's worth. I am happy to give a 10/10 to the game that has defined the current age of gaming. The underdog in an decade where gaming is all copy pasted First person shooters, or player friendly adventuring, or lego games. Dark Souls 2 will leave you not wanting, but needing more, Learning from every soul gained, leave you taken away by the World you're thrown into, and leaving you feeling knowing that if you try your best and never give up, that you will come out a Hero.
